East 116th Street Station Area Plan
In March 2010 with funding from Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), the Saint Luke’s Foundation, and the Cleveland Foundation, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) and BSSDC completed the East 116th Street Station Area Plan. This plan sets forth a vision for the new station and other improvements. A concept of a new station, sustainability, and pedestrian improvements are included. The ambiguous plan also studied the “greening” of Shaker Blvd. to decrease the “wall.” New seating elements, green space, and reduction of the size of these walls were included. The station is situated near the new Harvey Rice School and Rice Branch Library Campus and the new Saint Luke’s Manor. The East 116th Station is scheduled to be reconstructed in 2014. RTA will continue to enhance the ridership in the area, while leveraging its investments in the stations through a collaborated with Buckeye Shaker Square Development Corporation.
